Hapaq-Lloyd Express has its headquarters at Hanover Airport, Germany. It commenced flight operations in  2002 and in 2005 carried 3.6 million passengers.

In the summer 2006 a total of 18 aircraft - 16 Boeing 737s and two Fokker 100s - will be flying to 36 destinations in nine European countries from Cologne-Bonn, Hanover, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Berlin-Tegel, Dusseldorf, Leipzig and Munich airports.

HLX aircraft offer leather seats and distance between seats (seatpitch) of 30" (B 737) and 34" (Fokker 100).

At the start of each summer and winter flight schedule HLX.com allocate a certain number of super-cheap tickets at €19.99 for every flight.

The aircraft are operated on behalf of Hapag-Lloyd Express by Germania and Hapag-Lloyd Flight. These two companies also provide HLX with pilots and flight attendants.

As of April 1st. Passengers with only hand-luggage can check-in and print out their boarding card at home.
